KOPEL was established as a platform to preserve the unique beca (trishaw) as well as to showcase alternative tourism areas around Penang; namely, the countryside of Balik Pulau on the island and Penang mainland.

Our homestay within the rural communities offer you a sneak peek into the rustic life uncomplicated by the bustle of the city through first-hand experience.

Experience the diverse eco and agro-tourism and cottage industries in these villages; visit the herb farms to learn about their usage and medicinal properties. Observe the process of rubber tapping and the conversion of latex sap into rubber sheets.

Want to satisfy your taste buds? Then sample the various tropical fruits from a visit to the fruit farms. There are also fish-rearing ponds of various species common in local diet.

Discover how local delicacies are made including, satay/saté (marinated pieces of skewed meat barbequed over hot coals), kuih bahulu (delightful local sponge cake similar in size to Madeleine). Activities (and traditional games) will vary according to the village you visit.

With so many more things to experience, KOPEL truly is Your Window to the Other Side of Penang.
